I'm a complete addict of Arthur of the Britons - it's a refreshingly realistic take on what life in Britain at that time might actually have been like. No castles or knights, just thatched huts and plenty of mud... but the horseback action is fabulous. And the fact that it has two utterly gorgeous co-stars is of course just incidental *g*

I love Monty Python and the Holy Grail - it never fails to make me smile. And I have a soft spot for Camelot the musical because it was the first thing my OH took me out to see (and he hates musicals!) and those tunes are just so darn catchy...

Yes, we went to see an open-air production of the musical... must be getting on for 25 years ago now. Can't even remember who was in it, but I still have some of those tunes in my head.

I like your new icon.

AotB was my first love and still the greatest.
But I do love "Excalibur", and "Holy Grail".

Arthur is just too annoying in "Merlin."

I absolutely adore Kaamelott but, as it is a French TV show, I guess not many (English speaking) people know of it

The last few seasons have English subtitles - 4, 5 and 6 I'm certain of; 3 - possibly. It's an amazing series ♥ ♥ ♥!

Absolutely! I should know, because I use them too :). I think my French is pretty decent, but I have to admit that it's easier for me to use the English subtitles than the French ones... I have all the DVD box sets, and the three last ones have English subtitles. I should check Season 3 though. It's pretty crucial to the rest of the story, so...

There are so many puns in the characters' lines that I'm not sure it would be as funny after being translated. It plays heavily on the discrepancy between the modern language they use and the formal language they should be using in that period of history. Also, King Arthur is surrounded by a bunch of morons and/or incompentent people (from Merlin to his own knights).

I have seen appallingly few of those, somehow ;_;. I voted Monty Python because of the films/series on the list that I've seen, it's my favourite. Of course I'm also a devoted Kaamelott fangirl.

This makes it look as if I'm mainly into parody, but - frankly, I find most 'serious' screen adaptations of Arthur disappointing. I enjoyed the 1998 Merlin and I even enjoy the new BBC series (despite the awful writing; I just like the actors :P), but when I think of Arthurian matter that I find really touching and inspiring and great, I'll always choose books.

Kaamelott is an exception. That series manages to be both profoundly serious and absolutely idiotic. It's touching and inspiring and great, like my favourite Arthurian books :).

Huge fan of Camelot, but I like Mists of Avalon just a tiny bit more.

To each his own :-) I loved the movie when I saw it which led me to the book. I dearly love the movie, but I was absolutely entranced by the novel. It's very hard to put down every time I read it.

Camelot for sure, though I actually prefer the stage version done in the eighties to the film, and well, most any theatre adaptation unless it's really terrible (I'm a big theatre and musical fan so my favorite is usually always the live version if I get a choice) followed by...well most of these. It's hard to get me to dislike an adaptation if I can see it as reasonably connected and logical to some universe's Camelot or other. I actually really disliked the Mists of Avalon film but I do adore the book. I admittedly seethe in frustration at the characters being stupid in it but the prose is beautiful and I really like Lancelet and Arthur and it's rare to get me to like an Arthur.

I'm actually an Orkney fangirl first and foremost (My favorite is Agravaine!) so I tend to look at things in terms of how they would feel and a lot of times that means Arthur gets sold short in my mind. I've also had some bad roleplaying experiences with an Arthur who wound up traumatizing most of the knights I played back then, and I sort of can't disconnect the two. It's funny how that works, isn't it?

I do like Merlin and even King Arthur to an extent. I just...sort of have to leave my reality at the door when I watch them.

I had to go with Sam Neill's Merlin on this one because I saw it recently and quite liked it. Another reason is that I don't think I like any one of these so so much that it surpasses all the others to become a firm favourite (although if Spamalot had been on the list...).

I'd say Arthur of the Britons, but hey, I'm biased. And I absolutely adore Monty Python. Then, I do love parodies.

Is it too late to check in on this?

I absolutely love the 1998 miniseries Merlin. Love love love it to absolute bits.

I have not seen very many on that list to be honest, though.

Not that that would change my opinion an ounce :-)

(And I'm positively relieved "First Knight" has no votes.)

I picked other because my first introduction to Arthur and Merlin was Walt Disney's The Sword in the Stone. It will always hold a place in my heart as my favorite version of Arthur and Merlin. =) because i so would have owl-napped Archameties and never given him back to Merlin XD
