ONCE AND FUTURE... ARTHURIAN ROLEPLAY
THE BLOG

“Arthur, their young king, like a hero out of legend.”

“Arthur
is no fit king,” they said. And yet, here he is. Surrounded by those
who already swore to be loyal to him with no hesitations. But they
aren’t many. Most of the people - noblemen and ordinary people alike -
still doubts his right for the throne. He needs to prove himself, he has
to earn their trust.  People are coming to see the new king from every
corner of the country. Some of them to offer an alliance; others to see
their potential enemy. Many claimed the throne before him, yet no one
has ever been able to put the sword out of the stone but Arthur. He’s
been raised without knowing his origin and he’s been raised well. Now
he’s ready to rule. He will be a good king. I, Merlin, am sure of it.

You can apply for an open character (or an original character) at this link. Some rules here!

THE CHARACTERS (taken)
Kay | King Lot | Morgause | Elaine (Arthur's sister) | Guinevak | Ceri (OC) | Guinevere | Nimue | Taliesin | Merlin | Dindrane | Bedivere | Lucan | Anburn (OC)

WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL NOW (main plot events?)
Guinevere
and Guinevak arrived in Camelot and Guinevere will soon marry Arthur.
Bedivere and Lucan returned from battle. Kay is Camelot's seneschal and,
surprising himself, won at the last tournament. Elaine just met her
sister Morgause after years of not seeing each others. Taliesin,
Camelot's bard, is waiting to meet his friend Merlin again. Dindrane is
looking for her brother's Perceval. Morgause and Lot are plotting
against Arthur. Ceri is the huntress of the castle and she would like to
be a knight one day. Basically everyone is looking/waiting for Arthur...
who is not in Camelot because our rpArthur left us D:

.kindred soul cracked spirit. it has to end to begin.
In the beginning, there was Khaos.

From it came everything else, and from everything that Khaos was, gods came. You know them from when they were infinite and absolute - their myths, their stories, their legends.

They weren't supposed to die - but worry not, for death is not an end. Their mortal shells hold their immortal souls, a new beginning each turn of the wheel. They bleed. They die.

Khaos collects.

Deities have been reborn once again as mortals in 2010. Welcome to NYC, the cosmopolitan capital of the world, breathe in that fresh air- enjoy that cup of latte (it may well be your last). Your mortal life has been spent spoiled and rich, insignificant with its ease.

It's time to pay up.

Errant & Otherwise banner

Introducing Errant & Otherwise, an Arthurian roleplay community created and maintained by yours truly. Set in an alternate version of Britain where the tragedy of Camlann was averted, Mordred has been crowned High King following Arthur’s death. Mourning the loss of the greatest king Britain has known, Camelot is slowly deteriorating. Many of Arthur’s Companions have gone, as their loyalty to Arthur did not necessarily pass to his son. Others remain, hoping against hope that the tides will change. Word of Arthur’s death is spreading throughout Europe, and tension is mounting — most notably from Rome, which seeks to once more assimilate Britain into her empire.

Essentially, anyone of nearly any roleplaying skill is welcome. The only stips are: paragraph/novel format roleplaying only, and please type in proper English. (Doesn't need to be perfect; just understandable.) To reserve your character of choice, you must register with that character's name as your username. Characters who were killed at the Battle of Camlann are fair game, but characters who died elsewhere or beforehand (such as Lamorak, Morgause, etc.) remain dead unless a logical and valid explanation can be given that they're still alive.

(Note: at the time of this posting, the following characters are unavailable: Mordred, Sagramor, Agravain, Nimue.)

You all know their myths, when they were influential and absolute, but what comes around goes around - karma came knocking at their doors and these Gods died. Reincarnated throughout time, sometimes with no idea of who they truly are, they all struggle to understand what keeps bringing them back to life and for what purpose are they subjected to this higher power and their games.

Reserves+Apps currently open until the 15th.

.old gods never die. they simply get recycled.
You all know their myths, when they were influential and absolute, but what comes around goes around - karma came knocking at their doors and these Gods died. Subjected to a higher power, they have lived again, and again - only shadows of their former selves. God shells with only a fraction of their original power. They bleed and die like mortals, but are not quite that.

Christian, Celtic, Greek and Norse deities reborn as mortals and living in 2010, some remember their past, some do not but in this day and age knowledge is power. Welcome to NYC, cosmopolitan capital of the world, here they are gathering - gods, monsters, heroes- they all feel the calling of something but no one is quite sure of what.

Salvete!

Me stuff:Salve! My name is Amea (as you can see) and I am an anglophile with a particularly Arthurian bend. ^_^ You can also see that if you check out my LJ; hee, it’s rather Guenever-themed at the moment. Er, classic Guenever... as opposed to MZB Gwenhwyfar. I also have all the "Days of Camelot" posters in my bedroom and all kinds of other strange Arthurian possessions. I was fortunate to attend a high school where chivalry was still in vogue and it has impacted me gurtly for the better!

Lit stuff:Some of my favorite Arthurian tellings/retelling are the classics done by Tennyson, Chretchien de Troyes, and, of course, Malory, but I really have enjoyed some of the more modern ones as well. My personal favorite is Stephen Lawhead’s Pendragon Cycle (or at least the first three of them) because he blends the historical and legendary characteristics so well! He also has a modern story about Arthur’s return that is nothing if not interesting. I also have to profess a certain fondness for Roger Lancelyn Green’s King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It’s a really basic book, but it was my first dog-eared Arthurian compilation, so I love it. I also unfortunately have a particular dislike for The Mists of Avalon – I’m probably alone, there! I’m also currently reading TH White’s The Once and Future King, which I am enjoying. Neandrethal!Lance is a nice change from the empty stuffed-shirt that seems so prevalet. ^_^

Write Stuff:I also have dabbled in writing King Arthuresque short stories and midrashes, and am currently working on a full-length novel. Trouble is, I’ve been reading so much of the newer lit that makes Arthur look so weak that I’m having trouble painting him as a hero! I need to go back and read the Old School again to get me all excited. I have also done a rather large and tedious research paper on the Historical Evolution of Guenevere for school, and really hope to go on to study Arthurian legend in depth in college and grad school. I’m going to be going to Wheaton College next year to major in English with an emphasis on Medieval British Literature, so, er, I can have a useful degree?

Anyhoo, that’s my rather large How I Have Liked Arthur, and I suppose my Why I Would Like Arthur entails a lot of things about archetypes and hero stories and the wonderful sense of dependable glory that one gets while reading them. I think it awakens in all of us the desire to do something greater than ourselves.

Backtracking Stuff: Anyway, so, hello! I’m sorry if any of you actually read all that. ^^;; Other than that, I guess I really haven’t much to say, so, er, hi. ^^;;

Oh, yes! A friend of mine just reminded me – silly her – that she is starting up a King Arthur RPG on LiveJournal and she still needs a lot o’ characters. ^_^ You’ll have to excuse the plug; if you want more info, just check out the community page.

Thank 'Ee: Thanks for making this beautiful community, ! **hugs**
