Hello everyone! This isn't a very talkative community, and there hasn't been much conversation going on lately, so I thought I'd start something!

I was just wondering what all of you thought about Monty Python's parody of the Arthurian Legends - Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I thought it was absolutely hysterical, I think I laughed more in this movie than any other. I think it would be impossible for me to chose one favorite part, but I loved the holy hand grenade, the tomb of Sir Joseph of Aramathea, and the French guards ;). So...what did you think of this parody and what was your favorite part (that is, if you liked it)?

EDIT: I almost forgot, the thing with the cocounts was hilarious! One time my crazy friends and I went to the store and bought a coconut, and then we ran around the neighborhood with one of us banging the two empty halves together and one of us pretending to ride a horse! Haha, good times...just thought I'd share ;)

I love the way they refer to the Lady of the Lake as the watery tart :) Has me in hysterics every time! LOL

I love that movie!

There's not a part of that movie I don't like, but I think my very favorite part is the part where God comes down and imparts the quest. That's just hysterical, and just 'blasphemous' enough to make me happy.

This is one that I quote

And often! Absolutely one of my favorites.

My favorite part is The Black Knight. And the French guards.

And lets not forget Castle Anthrax...

"And after the spanking comes...."

I love that film! The rabbit is wonderfiul, and so is the argument abojut the swallow. I know the answer to the question about the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow. I found it online, here: http://www.style.org/unladenswallow/

I'm a huge fan of the movie and usually watch it a couple of times a year. In my college Arthurian Literature class, we had one of the more renowned Arthurian scholars, Dorsey Armstrong teaching -- she's done a couple of books on Malory and now teaches at Purdue -- and the class was fantastic starting with the oral tales and few Welsh poems and the Mabinogian and going on through to Malory and up to the present. So for the couple of classes before finals, we just watched the Holy Grail, because Dr. Armstrong said (and being a medieval historian, I totally agree with her on this) that Holy Grail is one of the best movies depicting the period accurately and not just as a comedy, but as a source.

I do not like the movie and I avoid it whenever possible. Sorry to say that but Monty Python is just not my thing. Generally.

Your Knight.

Yay! THe girl in the classic lit community! Good to know I'm not the only classic literature crazed person who also likes something as nuts as Monty Python. There are so many good parts I'm having a hard time choosing. I really like the witch scene. "And what do we do with witches." "BURN HER!"
