I say it's time to round the horses, and get some conversation started. So, I've decided to post a few topics of interest!
1) Do you believe in reincarnation, and if so, do you think you've had past lives in the Arthurian Era?
2) Can Paganism and Christianty AS WE KNOW IT TODAY *truly* co-exist?
3) What is your favorite Arthurian imagery?
Let's talk! Hee.

Date: 2005-08-20 09:54 am (UTC)2) AS WE KNOW IT TODAY, not as well as we'd like. Soon, though. Soon. People are beginning to realize that spirit guides and guardian angels are similar, and God has the same purpose that Thor and Diana and Hekate and Vishnu do. Though they're specific, God is general. There are also a lot of underlying belief in different pagan practices that can relate to Christianity. *happy violin music starts playing* If people could totally put away titles and names and recognize things for what they really are under the clothes, we'd probably get along a lot more.
3) I like the white stag. I'm not quite sure what you mean by imagery. It's 3AM here. XD

Date: 2005-08-20 09:57 am (UTC)Do you think Gwenivere in the movie accurately portrays Gwenivere in Arthurian Legends? Why do you think they chose to portray her like that?
(Sorry; seeing her in the movie like that always bugged me. I thought she was a blonde haired god fearing maiden who was either ran out and burned... or did that happen to Lancelot? I haven't been up-to-date with this for a whiiiiiiiiiiile. :S)

Date: 2005-08-20 06:58 pm (UTC)Otherwise, I'm sure there'd be in the Welsh Triads something about the three great love triangles :)
I think she would know how to fight and be as hard as nails.
To answer the questions:
1) I can't say I don't believe in reincarnation, but I can't say as I do either. And I certainly don't have a particular earlier me in Arthurian times. I have experienced deja vu in the south of England though, so I can't rule out *why* I felt like that.
2) Until Christians figure out how to peacefully co-exist with each other, the best one can hope for is guarded tolerance. Like another member here, I have no problems with people who believe in different gods and have different faith mechanisms, because I think it all boils down to be different aspects of some Great Divine we can't even begin to comprehend, try as we may.
3) Daggy, but the old King Arthur of the Britons series with Oliver Tobias is what I first think of. Then the Mary Stewart books.

Good old Gwenhwyvar, like I've always said, could barely shoot a proper glare, let alone shoot arrows accurately. The girl was...-bites back some rude comments-
Let's just say I have resentment issues. xD
Neither almost got burned. Once again, mistaken identity. People need to get the facts stright ~_~...No one almost burned Gwenhwyvar. Lancelot didn't need to come rescue her. Because no one was about to kill the Queen.
I think they chose to slather her name on that personality because they wanted more people to like her, and to try and fit it into the movie. Not because it was accurate, but because it would just look cool.

Date: 2005-08-20 11:27 am (UTC)Yes look at the Republic of Ireland. They have embrased the olde with the new very well... And to be honest all christianity has if you think about it. None of what is taught in Christianity is new, it is all taken fom other older religions..

Ireland is dealing with Catholics and Protestants, which still, in part still fight today.
As well as it takinf thousands of years of death and destruction to get to where they are today.

Date: 2005-08-20 02:12 pm (UTC)2. Mostly people are too blinded by their religions to see that Christianity is partly evolved from Paganism (Easter, the death of Christ, the Virgin Mary, there are many allusions in Christianity that hearken back to Pagan days). The two religions *SHOULD* co-exist, because of their fundamentally shared themes, but I don't know that they *CAN*.
3. I love Pre-Raphaelite imagery of the legends. *drool* :)

3. Not sure what the question means.

Date: 2005-08-20 06:06 pm (UTC)2) In TODAY'S society, think that's a tough one. It all depends on people. Some could... but the fact that Christianity has pushed out everything since it was created and still ObViOuSlY intends to keep pushing things out... I tihnk I'm going to have to say as a whole, no. Because even if individuals may be tolorent of others, there is no force stronger than propaganda when the people don't know better. And with the politics we have today, all the unfair goings on. I laugh at the thought of things being "fair"
3) Hmm... that's way hard. I like lots and lots.

Date: 2005-08-20 10:33 pm (UTC)2) Sure, I'm a Christian and some of my best and dearest friends are not! I think as long as we keep an open mind and (more importantly) a respect for all human beings despite their religious beliefs, there should be no reason why we all can't get along!
3) Well, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by imagery, but I just love the romance and idealism of the times. I also am a huge Pre-Raphaelite fan, and I adore their depictions of the Arthurian legends.

Date: 2005-08-20 11:26 pm (UTC)2. Peacefully? I doubt it. There will always be fundamentalists in both categories, and humanity is far too silly to ever stop arguing completely...
3. My favourite image in all of the Arthurian works is the one from the scene in TH White, with Gawaine slung over the front of whosis's horse, with blood in his hair... Yes, I know I'm weird...
Time to reply to my own questions, heh
Date: 2005-08-21 01:03 am (UTC)1) I do, absolutely, on both accounts. When thinking Arthurian, I think of a time when most armour was nothing at worst, and thin chain mail or patches of metal plating at best. No full-suits of shiney stuff yet, otherwise arrows would have been useless, and I was a bloody good archer.
2) Frankly, since I am neither "Pagan" nor christian, I have my doubts. Maybe, but...mmphm. I think it's much easier these days, considering modern paganism is more akin to christianity than ancient paganism/druidism.
3) Oh man...too much. One of my favorite peices of imagry comes from Mists of Avalon (the movie), where Morgain first comes to Avalon and Vivianne parts the mists. Other things are when the final battle just begins...a pure, primal rush of power. -sighs- Swords and daggers and the clash of metal...utter bliss.
