Date: 2004-06-20 06:16 pm (UTC)The story of Arthur is actually more an allegory - the story of the formation of Britain through to the fall to the Roman conquerors.

Date: 2004-06-20 07:11 pm (UTC)it also seems to be saying what I already knew thou. Which is good as it basically helps with my investigations into the Legend. It's a far cry from the romantic legend of the middle ages and what we have come to expect...

Date: 2004-06-20 09:30 pm (UTC)They did mention something that they said was new - new findings from the last 2-3 years. Some folks went back to old Roman documents and discovered a record of a king or lord who was asked by the Roman for help in fending off invaders. So, this fellow amassed an army of 12,000, so the record says, and sailed for Gaul/Normandy. It was said that he never returned to Britannia, but curiously, died while on route to a city named Avalon. So, he has Arthurian behavior, and he's linked with a place called Avalon. Interesting, eh?
