King Arthur
Jun. 15th, 2004 04:27 pmDoes anyone know yet if the movie King Arthur, coming out in July is going to be worth purchasing a ticket or two? Am I correct in saying this is the first Arthurian based movie out since Merlin, back in 1999?
It would be nice to have something to look forward to on the subject.
Certainly hope for responses. Thanks.

It's kinda annoying when people get too hung up over whether the tales are "original" or not, because anything from the Renaissance forward is just another new interpretation of the legends. Besides, it's a movie, and NOT to be taken seriously, especially when that dental-floss-sized wench of an "actress" is going to be playing Guinevere. It's all for kicks, nothing more.

But Quenn Jenny as a warrior queen? Methinks someone's taken a liberal dose of interpretation on that one.

And the miniseries "Mists of Avalon" with Juliana Margulise (sp?) and Angelica Houston.

I guess the biggest gripe i have about this film is that they keep insisting that this is the "true origin" of Arthur. When in fact scholars who spend their whole life research the origins of Arthur are still not sure.

Date: 2004-06-15 07:44 pm (UTC)The "true origin" of the legend? Interesting.. got to hand it to Hollywood for revving the people up. But this could be good, get more people interested and talking about the legends. Maybe even educate a few who follow through. *Please note that I consider myself one of the masses of ignorances.*
Who's version are they basing the story off of?

Date: 2004-06-15 09:03 pm (UTC)It is claiming to be a true historical account. Be warned that there is no way in hell it can possibly be a true historical account of any type, even through speculation. It has Lancelot, 'nuff said.
