Well, I'm sure you have heard of these books/works, but here are some Arthurian-related things I've read before that you might like to check out:

* History of the Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth
* The lays of Marie de France, especially Guigemar and Lanval
* Chretien de Troyes's The Knight of the Cart, The Knight with the Lion, Erec and Enide
* The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser
* Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
* The Vulgate Cycle, or the Lancelot-Grail Cycle, including stories such as the history of the grail (Joseph of Arimethea), the Prose Merlin, Prose Lancelot, the Quest for the Holy Grail, and the Death of King Arthur
* Guinevere and The Last Tournament, from Idylls of the King by Alfred Lord Tennyson

My favorites are the Chretien works, and Guinevere--they are so beautiful! Has anyone else read these?

Yes I have! Though it has been a long time for the Tennyson. Did you say you wrote a paper on that? Would you post it here for us to see?!
So you are the romantic sort, are you ;)
Did you read deTroyes' Cliges? I like that one too! Very cute. It's weird, the sort of criticism he throws in of the decadent court life. Arthur is kinda ineffectual in deTroyes most of the time. Very unlike the brash Arthur of old Geoff or the later Malory Arthur. I like the Knight of the Lion, Yvain is a badass, but the Knight of the Cart irritates me so, since I think Lancelot is a silly nancy-boy and Guen is an evil bitch. But then, I've always had a bias toward Arthur ;)
Still haven't read the Vulgate cycle. Too preachy for me. I have a really funny image of the Vulgate grail though, with a little Jesus popping out of it! It's too funny, I will dig that up for you.

Malory and Wolfram von Esenbach take the cake for me!

ah! found it! This is the funniest thing ever! (well that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's funny anyhow...) I present to you, the vulgate cycle grail!:

Haha the mini dancing Jesus is so disturbing! I can just hear the Monty Python song playing-- "we dine well here in Camelot, we eat ham and jam and spam a lot!!!"
