tristan(s)
Feb. 17th, 2004 06:47 pmHey!
My name is Eva and I am a student of German and History at Vienna State University (Austria). I am actually writing a paper on Tristan in the late middle ages (going up to the 17/18th Century) and I absolutely fell in love with it!
I dont know how many of you know the versions of Tristan and Iseult/Isolde (however) of Gottfried von Straßburg - this was my basic literature! Now I am also had to work myself through Tristan en prose (2nd "edition" of course) where Tristan kills Isold in the end! - known that? I didnt.
Then I went through some north European versions ... I can only say W:O:W! Well there were versions of incest (Tristan and Isold being siblings) to a very interesting Danish version: Tristan, the princess of India = Indiana (Isolde), King of Spain (Alfons=Marke), Princess of Spain (Isolde Whitehand) - interesting isnt it?
Oh ... well maybe I should go back to it and finish my paper ... Ive already too many footmarks on that *lol*
Anyway, I never thought that there would be so many different versions of that. I am not even talking about the slavic versions or the Italian/ Hispanic ones about Tristans' children!
It is incredible.
In Austria youve to take a 2 seminars in Older German Literature and my with my luck we got that great topic.
Tristan en prose - this French version - also inclused the search for the gral!
Okay now its really time to go ... if somebody wants the exact titles, feel free to leave me a comment, and I will try to answer them all ;)
Toddles, Eva
