I finally got to see Excalibur last night, and I was very impressed. I love the fact that they got some inspiration from Tennyson's Idylls of the King at the end, when King Arthur goes to Guinevere at the nunnery and tells her that he wishes to be her husband in Heaven. It was a very beautiful scene.

I was also very pleased at their characterization of Perceval, a bumbling ignoramus. Then at the end he is hesitant to throw Excalibur into the lake. Quite accurate compared to The Death of King Arthur

The movie was also very funny, especially Merlin!

Some things that I didn't like. The development of the plot and characters is kinda lacking. I understand that they're trying to put quite a huge chunk of Arthurian legend into this one movie, but it all goes too fast. The Quest for the Holy Grail takes up ten minutes of the whole movie. I didn't get a good feel for the development of the love affair between Guinevere and Lancelot. It was just like *boom* they're in love. So I didn't really feel close to them, and didn't care.

My favorite scene: King Arthur's wedding, where Guinevere lifts up her silvery veil to drink from the chalice and to kiss Arthur. So pretty!
